I bought a Suzuki Balano 2000 2dr 1.6L with 127k on the clock. It's a great car, but it has a fault that seems quite odd to me. I will attempt to describe it as best as I can.

95% of the time the car runs like a clock, but occasionally in traffic the rev counter drops as I put the clutch in, it starts to shudder a bit and then stalls the car, upon restarting (easily) I have to use gas and brake to stop it stalling out. Once the car gets moving again the car makes this whining noise that resembles a gearbox noise (like a gearbox bearing kind of). And then within a few minutes the noise stops (at same speed) and it runs like a clock again. When its not running right it almost feels sluggish. (This is without aircon on as well) It seems to be random. I was thinking maybe a crank sensor or something like that?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

mmmmm tricky sounding this one  Grin , but the first part

would probably point to a fault with possibly the clutch or thrust bearing. But you would expect it to happen all the time. So you wouldnt really know untill the gearbox was out.

How does the clutch pedal feel?

Other thing it could possibly be, the slave cylinder could have air in it. I had a problem with the slave cylinder in my old car which caused the clutch to stick to the floor and i was unable to take it out of gear which caused it to stall and once taking out and started again it was fine. You could try bleeding the clutch and seeing if it helps

Hmm not to sure aye.....the clutch is perfectly fine. Doesn't stick or do anything strange. I would also be driving along at a constant speed and all of a sudden the car would make that funny (like a noisy diff whine)......and would be slightly sluggish. Then the whine would just disappear (bam) and then would be fine again. Wonder if its a pulley bearing or something?
